A Celebration of Life service for Virgil "Dale" Shelton age 83 of Enid will be 10:00 am Thursday, March 12, 2020 at Oakwood Christian Church with Rev. Lester Lowrey officiating. Burial will be in the Alva Cemetery at 2:00 pm under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
Dale was born March 30, 1936 in Wagoner, OK to Virgil R. and Billie Anderson Shelton and passed away Sunday, March 8, 2020 at The Commons Nursing Center.
He joined the U.S. Marines on September 13, 1957 in Oklahoma City and was honorable discharged on January 11, 1968. He married Pearl Cunningham. He was a member of the Evangel Assembly of God and a life member of D.A.V. and V.F.W. Dale worked in construction building highways and bridges.
Survivors include his five daughters, Carolyn Bennett and husband Bob, Jan Olson, Barbara Williams and husband Terry, all of Enid, Ok, Marilyn Williams and husband Charles, of Alva, a son, Eldon Cunningham and wife Alberta of Boone, Iowa, 25 grandchildren, 75 great-grandchildren and several great great-grandchildren, sister Linda, sister in laws; Anna and Alice Shelton, his dog Demi, many nieces and nephews, and especially his church family and dog park friends.
Dale was preceded in death by his wife Pearl, parents, daughter Sherry Ross, sister Nancy and brothers Bobby and Phil and son in law Robert Olson, grandchildren; Rhonda Baggenstoss and Lawrence Cunningham, Tommy Ross and Christopher Cunningham.
Memorials may be made to Evangel Assembly of God or Enid SPCA with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodians of the funds.
