Funeral service for Doris Marie Schupbach is 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, at Alva First Christian Church. Ron Pingelton, Pastor, will officiate. Interment in Alva Municipal Cemetery. Doris Marie, daughter of Katie E. (Trenary) and Louis Sternberger was born north of Alva in Woods County on Jan. 20, 1921. She passed away Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, at the age of 92 years, 8 months and 10 days.

She attended Hardtner School and graduated with the class of 1939.

On March 20, 1946, she was married to Morice James Schupbach in Hardtner, Kan.

They made their home on a farm west of Cherokee in Alfalfa County. On May 20, 1949, went to a farm west of Alva. In June of 1968, they moved to town and made their home.

Doris farmed and ranched with Morice and was a housewife.

They traveled to all of the continents except Africa, all of the states in the United States, and all the provinces in Canada.

In February 1978, she became a member of First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. She was a member of Rebekah Lodge 44, receiving the Decoration of Chivalry, the highest honor of the Rebekah’s in 1998, were she held the treasure seat for 22 years. Also the Alva Ladies Encampment, Past Noble Grant Club, Odd Fellows, Alva Tulip Garden Club, where she held state and district offices in both Garden and Lodge.

In July of this year she took a very special trip with her family to Hawaii.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Morice; her parents; sister, Vera Thurman; three brothers, Olen, Louis Jr. and Loyd; niece, Violet Nine; and three nephews, Leon, Billy and Bruce Sternberger.

Doris is survived by four nieces and their spouses: Judy Rockett of Hardtner, Kan., Karen and John Brooks of Wichita, Kan., Susanne and Darrell Pralle of Enid, Okla., Jeanne and Terry Mantz of Georgetown, Texas; and five nephews and their spouses: Lee Alan of Hardtner, Kan., Louis and Janis Schupbach of Alva, Okla., Ronald and Lois Allenbach of Kiowa, Kan., Donnie Schupbach of Wichita, Kan., and Francis Nine of Ponca City; a very special friend, Shirley Hook-Marquez; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, or the Nutrition Center of Senior Citizens.

Visitation with the family will be 7-8 p.m. today at Wharton Funeral Chapel.
