There will be no funeral service for Virginia Lee Reed, 72, of Alva, at her request. Arrangements are by Wharton Funeral Chapel, Alva.

She was born Dec. 29, 1933, in Cherokee to Bessie Litterell and Shirell Young and died Monday, June 26, 2006, at Alva Share Medical Center.

She attended Cherokee schools. She married Andrew Reed Nov. 29, 1949, in Fairview. They made their home on a farm west of Aline. They moved to Alva in 1950 where she worked in a café and did housekeeping, retiring in 1989. She was a member Jehovah’s Witnesses, Alva congregation.

Surviving are her husband, Andrew, of the home; two sons, Robert of Enid and Roger of St. Joseph, Mo.; three sisters, Martha Davenport, Georgia Daniels and Hazel Edmonds, all of Star City, Ark.; one brother, Lee Roy Young of North Little Rock, Ark.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.
Memorials may be made to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, heart division.

September 5, 1932 - March 2, 2021

Andrew Reed, son of Sadie (Shaddy) and Burrel Reed, was born on September 5, 1932, in Aline, Oklahoma. He passed away on March 2, 2021, in Alva, Oklahoma, at the age of 88 years, 5 months and 25 days.

In Jake's younger years he grew up on a farm in the Aline area. When he left the farm he became a professional painter for a number of years. He then worked for the State of Oklahoma Highway Department out of Cherokee until his retirement.

He loved to sing and play music. His passion was working with wood in his workshop. He also loved to go fishing. He had a lot of fish stories to tell and entertain family and friends. He also could grow the best garden ever! He knew all the tricks and he would share his veggies with family and friends!

Jake and Virginia Young were married for 56 years and to this union two sons, Robert and Roger, were born.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his mother and father; stepdad Dewey Bouziden; three sisters, Lucille, Maxine and Charlotte; and a brother, DeBoy.

Andrew is survived by his two sons, Robert and wife Renae Reed of Enid, Oklahoma, and Roger Reed of Dekalb, Missouri; a brother, Bill Bouziden of Austin, Texas; sister, Shirley Frieze of Wichita, Kansas; six grandchildren, Heather Reed, Tiffany Sturgeon, Derek Turner, Whitney Classen, Jeff Carpenter, Roger Sutton; great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2021, at 2 p.m. at Alva Municipal Cemetery.
