Alva Cemetery


Loretta Gail Oshel, daughter of Pearl Rose English and Frank Marion English, was born May 4, 1922, in her grandparent’s home in Waynoka, OK and died Monday, Sept. 10, 2007, at her home of 55 years in Alva, OK.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 14, 2007, at Marshall Funeral Home Chapel. Sean Evans, minister of First Christian Church of Alva, will be officiating and Judge Dean Linder will be delivering the eulogy. Interment will be in Alva Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Alva. The casket will remain closed; however, friends are invited to pay their respects throughout the day today as well as to attend funeral services on Friday.

After graduating from Waynoka High School, Loretta Gail attended Northwestern State College and continued her studies at Wesley Nurses Training School in Wichita, KS.

She married Corporal Warren Herbert Oshel, US Army Air Corps, in Enid, OK on Jan. 20, 1943. They built their home together on 13th Street in Alva.

A successful wife and mother, Loretta Gail pursued her personal career by working for over 50 years for a number of local veterinarians, including committing many years to Ridgeview Veterinary Hospital with Dr. McKinley and Dr. Lohmann. Loretta Gail was a member of First Christian Church. She also was a proud member of the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Sigma Phi Gamma Sorority. She enjoyed spending time in her yard and growing roses.

Loretta Gail is survived by her mother, Pearl English Crain, of Alva her three sons, Dean, Ken and David; her daughter, Lore; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to Northwestern Oklahoma State University Foundation.
