Family visitation will be from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, December 9, 2018, at Wharton Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services for Max Oakes will be Monday, December 10, 2018, at 10 a.m. at Wharton Funeral Chapel with Rev. John Clapp, Bible Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Alva Municipal Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at http://www.whartonfuneralchapel.com.
Max, son of Pauline (Broomhall) and Clarence Oakes, was born June 28, 1937. He passed away December 04, 2018, in Enid, Oklahoma, at the age of 81 years, 5 months and 6 days.
He attended school in Alva and graduated with the class of 1956. Following high school he joined the Army National Guard and began farming.
Max was a loving father who enjoyed going to auctions, antique shops, attending rodeos and growing watermelon and cantaloupe.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Clarence, Bill and Bud; and a sister, Margie.
Max is survived by his four daughters, Karen Pierce, Sherry Oakes, Kimberly Wildeman, and his baby Paula Oakes; five grandchildren, Zack Oakes, Willie Ruder, Joanna Roller, Dalton Stoabs, and Bennie Pierce; two great grandchildren, Harper and Haddie Roller. He is also survived by the love of his life and long time companion, Eleanor Ring; a brother and his wife, Don and Judy Oakes; a sister-in-law, Lucille Oakes; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
