The memorial service for Gwendolyn "Colleen" Nixon, 86-year-old former Alva resident, will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at New Hope Methodist Church, with Pastor Dave Jones officiating. A private family burial will precede the service in the family plot in Alva Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home. Viewing for Colleen at the funeral home will be until 4:00 P.M. Sunday.

She was recognized as Teacher of the Year three times over her career. She was an OSU Homecoming Attendant and Freedom Rodeo Queen. Colleen was a long-time member of Christ United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was an excellent cook and loved all arts and crafts. But her greatest joy was being "Mema" to her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard; and brother, Earl Hackney and an infant brother.

Colleen is survived by three children, Dean Nixon of Tulsa; Becky Nixon of Enid; Kurt Nixon and wife, Shawn of Houston; eight grandchildren, Paige Crowe and husband, J.J.; Haley Sharp and husband, Trent; Taylor Nixon; Hunter Nixon; Colton Sydlik; Carrington Nixon; Kiersten Sydlik; Kenzington Nixon; three great-grandchildren; brother, Walt Hackney and wife Sue of Omaha; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
