ENID - The funeral for Billy Meixner will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at
Wharton Funeral Chapel, Alva. Pastor Terry Martindale will officiate. Burial
will be in Alva Municipal Cemetery.
Billy Dean, son of Dora Elsie (McDonald) and George Meixner was born Dec. 27,
1931, in Alva, Okla. He passed away at his home in Enid, Okla., after a
courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, May 23, 2010, at the age of 78 years, 4
months and 26 days.
He attended Alva Public Schools, where he graduated with the class of 1949. He
then served in the U.S. Army. Following his discharge he enrolled in
Northwestern Oklahoma State University, where he received his degree in
mathematics and physics in 1957.
On Aug. 23, 1952, he married Vera Joan DeAromond at the Christian Church in
Cherokee by the Rev. W.A. Keller. To their marriage two children, Joy and Steven
were born.
Following their marriage they moved to Los Alamos, N.M., where he was employed,
working as a nuclear physicist.
During this time he enrolled at the University of Arkansas School of Law and
received his juris doctorate in 1976, going on to pass the New Mexico State
Board, but chose not to practice family law, because in his words, "That was not
my nature, I just had to prove to myself I could be a lawyer if I wanted."
He later retired from Alamos Laboratory in 1990, after 33 years.
Billy was a member of First United Methodist Church, Alva.
He was preceded in death by his two wives, Joan and Joyce; his parents; and his
brother Edwin.
Bill is survived by Dwayne and Nancy Fuksa of Enid and their children, Jesse and
Jonathon, who Billy had lived with for the past two years of his life. He
regarded them as family and enjoyed spending time telling stories of his life in
the early days at the laboratory during the atomic testing periods. He also is
survived by his daughter, Joy Martin of Woodward; grandchildren, Chad, Charise
and Shawn Martin; six great-grandchildren; a son, Steven and two sisters, Cheryl
and Dorleen.
Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Ross Hospice of Enid.
