Alva Cemetery


Funeral service for Tom G. Joseph will be 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, at First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Terry Martindale, pastor, officiating. Interment in Alva Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements by Wharton Funeral Chapel, Alva.

Thomas Graves, son of Afton LaFay (Graves) and Robert Riley Joseph, was born Feb. 16, 1941, in Alva, Okla., and passed away at his home in Enid on the 16th of December, 2013, at the age of 72 years and 10 months.

Tom graduated from Alva High School with the class of 1959.

After graduation, he worked on the family farm, and did carpentry work and custom harvesting. In September 1963, he was drafted into the United States Army. He underwent basic training at Fort Eustis, Va., before he was transferred to Fort Sill, Okla. In December 1964, he was sent overseas to Vietnam. Mr. Joseph was married to Marjorie Wilcox on Sept. 17, 1966, at Alva first Christian Church. To their union, a son Jeff was born. Following their marriage, they returned to Enid to make their home, and he worked at Vance Air Force Base as a airplane electrician.

He was a member of Enid First United Methodist Church.

Tom continued farming the family farm, and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Mary Elizabeth (Poe); sister, Jolene Fay Huffaker; and close family friends, Pat Banse and Lorene Rust.

Tom is survived by his son, Jeff Joseph of Garber Okla.; sister, Linda Lou Joseph of Alva; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Alva First United Methodist Church.
