Alva – The funeral for the Rev. Carl W. "Bill" Hawkins, 72, will be 2 PM Tuesday at Alva Church of God. The Rev. Bob Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Alva Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are by Wharton Funeral Chapel.
He was born September 3, 1927, in Decatur, Indiana, to Flossie Smith and Emory Hawkins and died Saturday, November 20, 1999, at St. Mary's Mercy Hospital.
He graduated from Decatur high school in 1945 and attended Anderson College in Anderson, Indiana.
On June 18, 1950, he married Ella Mae Ruefenacht in Anderson. They lived in Ohio, Nebraska, Kansas, Turpin, and Texas City, Texas, where he served as pastor. His wife died October 30, 1970.
On February 5, 1972, he married Lou Ellen Isenberg at Houston. They attended Gulf Coast Bible College and graduated in 1976. They accepted the pastorate of Alva Church of God in May, 1976. He retired in 1989. He was a member of Alva Church of God and taught Sunday school classes.
Surviving are two daughters, Jean Elaine Coll and Ruth Ellen Hawkins, both of Sapulpa; three sons, Mark of Alva, Phillip of Fort Worth, Texas, and James of Torrence, California; one sister, Alice Jean Manley of Decatur; one brother, Paul of Glendale, Arizona; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife August 31, 1997, one grandson and one brother.
Memorials may be made to the churche's building fund.
