Mary Elizabeth Haley, daughter of Lydia Lillian (Smythe) and John Shoemake, was born on December 21, 1924, in Atoka, Oklahoma, and passed away at Beadles Nursing Home, on May 13, 2020, at the age of 95 years, 4 months and 22 days.
Mary attended the Atoka Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1942.
During World War II she worked for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, Kansas. At the end of the war she moved to Alva to live with Frank and Neeta Deaton. Neeta was Mary's sister.
Mary worked at the Pix Theater and the drive-in theater here in Alva.
Mary married Leroy (Lee) Haley in Kingfisher, Oklahoma, on March 29, 1951.
In the early 1950's, Lee and Mary put in the first stock car race track in Alva. The track was located at what is now the Woods County Fairgrounds.
Mary was a civil service employee for 20 years as a Selective Service Clerk for Woods County. For many years Mary and Lee enjoyed having an antique business.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lee, twin sisters Weeta May Kelley and Neeta Fay Deaton, and brothers Ira and Leo Shoemake.
Mary is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The Haley family would like to thank Beadles Nursing Home employees and staff for the love and care and devotion they showed Mary during her remaining years.
Contributions may be made in her memory to Beadles Activity Fund through Wharton Funeral Chapel.

Leroy "Lee" R. Haley, son of Mary and J.W. Haley, was born Dec. 9, 1926, at Dacoma, and passed away in Alva on Feb. 21, 2017, at the age of 90 years, two months and 12 days.
Lee attended Carmen Public Schools and Northwestern Oklahoma State University, where he received his bachelors degree in 1953 and his masters degree in 1959. While at NWOSU, Lee was vice-president of the student council in 1950-51. Lee attended O.S.U. for advanced graduate work.
Lee taught at Washington Elementary School, Alva, for five years before going to Longfellow Elementary for 30 years as principal.
Besides teaching, he enjoyed farming, and was a football and basketball official for 25 years.
Lee was in World War II, going into Nagasaki, Japan, soon after the second atomic bomb was dropped there in 1945. He was a S/Sgt. in the 22nd Special Service Co.
Lee and Mary Shoemake were married in Kingfisher on March 29, 1951. There were no children to this union.

Lee and Mary also had an antique business in Alva. Lee especially liked the antique cars and early National Cash Registers.
Lee served on the Woods County Health Board for several years. He also served on the Advisory Board of the N.W. Vo-Tech in Alva. In 2012, he was awarded the Outstanding Education Award from NWOSU. Lee was honored as an Inaugural Distinguished Gold Bug in 2015.
He attended the College Hill Church of Christ. Lee was baptized when he was 17 in the First Christian Church of Carmen.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Nelson Haley, and many other relatives.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Haley, nephews and nieces.
