Alva Cemetery


Alva – Gaynell Gardner, 86, died Sunday in an Alva nursing facility. She was born November 4, 1894, in Canadian County and a short time later the family moved to Clinton where she later attended school.

The former Gaynell Peach, she was married to Vance Gardner June 8, 1919, at Clinton. Her husband died August 4, 1966.

Following their marriage the Gardeners lived in Enid for a short time, then moved to Eureka, Kansas. In 1920, they moved to Alva and in 1938 built the Campus Canteen, which they operated until his death.

Mrs. Gardner was an active member of the First Christian church and the Birthday Sunday school class.

She was preceded in death by a son, J. T. Gardner August 15, 1952, and two brothers.

Mrs. Gardner is survived by two sons, Bob V. Gardner of Kingsdon, Rhode Island, and Don B. Gardner, Amarillo, Texas; five grandchildren; nine great – grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Hazel Kerns of Oklahoma City; a brother, Ralph Peach of Riverside, California.

Services for Mrs. Gardner will be at 2 PM Wednesday in the First Christian church with the Rev. Gary Worman officiating. Burial will be in the Alva Municipal Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Wharton Funeral Chapel of Alva.
