MARJORIE GENEVA (YOUNG) HARTWIG GOINS

Graveside services were held on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at the Alva Municipal Cemetery with Pastor Timothy Roggow officiating.

Our beloved Aunt Marjorie Geneva Young Hartwig Goins passed away peacefully at the Share Convalescent Home in Alva, Oklahoma, in the early morning hours of May 30, 2023, at the age of 97. Her birthday was January 4, 1926. After residing in Edmond, Oklahoma, for many years, she moved to Alva five and half years ago, where she lived at The Homestead. She was cared for by Carl Hartwig and Michelle Mapes for these years until her passing. We are grateful to the staff and residents at The Homestead and Share Convalescent Home, as well as Katie Green, Teresa Nichols, Shirley Gutierrez, and Joanna Johnson, for the extra care they provided for Marjorie.

Marjorie was baptized at the Zion Lutheran Church in Alva on April 25, 1926, and was confirmed on April 2, 1939. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Emma and Edward Young, parents, Robert and Ina Mae Williams Young; her brother Edward C. Young and sister, Bessie Juanita Young Trammell; her adopted parents, Charles W. and Anna Marie Hartwig, her brothers, Harold Hartwig and Elmer Hartwig, and sisters, Frieda Meyer, Ethel Petermann and Martha Ball, and her husband John C. Goins.

Marjorie graduated from Alva High School in 1944 and attended a business school in Oklahoma City. She lived in many places across the country, where she worked until her retirement as a bank accountant and computer technician in the early days of computers.

Her family fondly remembers her independent, unique personality with a twinkle in her blue eyes. Marjorie enjoyed her cat and planting a garden and flowers at her home in Edmond. She enjoyed painting, reading, and listening to scripture. Her faith was strong with love for God. She treasured a box full of Biblical studies and her Bible with underlined scripture.

Marjorie is survived by nephews and nieces, Carl Hartwig, Esther and Corky McIver all from Alva; Margaret Goll, Enid; Douglas and Lynn Hartwig, Oklahoma City; Leroy Ball and Pat McGarrity, Edmond; Ruth Ann Ball, Yukon; Mary and Kenneth McGowan, Satanta, Kansas; and many extended family members in the Hartwig, Meyer, and Petermann families.
