EDNA P. DEVINNEY - 100 - ALVA, OK
Edna Pearl daughter of Maud Elizabeth (Whittet) and Morrice Sweeney was born on December 8, 1908. She passed away at her home in Alva on the 22th of December at the age of 100 years and 14 days.
She graduated from Dacoma High School with the class of 1928.
On December 25, 1929 Miss Sweeney was married to Harlan C. (Pete) Devinney in Carmen. To their marriage two sons, Donald R. and Carroll L. were born.
Following their marriage they made their home in Dacoma until coming to Alva in 1941.
Edna has been a member of the First United Methodist Church since 1941.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two stepmothers, Lucy Williams Sweeney and Verna Galbreath Sweeney, an older sister Mildred Leslie, and a younger brother Glen Durwood Sweeney.
Mrs. Devinney is survived by her sons, Don and his wife Jane, and Carroll, both of Liberal, Kansas, a granddaughter and her husband, Angela and Bryan Schenk, Great Bend, Kansas, three grandsons and their wives, Darrin and Laura Devinney, El Dorado, Kansas, Kelly and Jennifer Devinney, Fort Hood, Texas and Jacob and Mehrnaz Devinney, Irvine, California; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be Saturday, December 27, 2008 at 4 p.m. at Wharton Funeral Chapel with Reverend Terry Martindale, Pastor, First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Alva Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Wharton Funeral Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the restoration of the First United Methodist Church, Alva.
