William Isaac, son of Louise Elizabeth (Busby) and Arthur Marion Baker was born February 4, 1927 in Claremore, Oklahoma. He passed away at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center on the 24th of December at the age of 81 years, 10 months and 20 days.
He attended Briggs Elementary School.
Mr. Baker was married to Ora Mae Williams on February 23, 1945 in Liberal, Kansas. To their marriage five children; Virginia Mae, William Leroy, Terry Lynn, Dorothy Faye and Sharron Ilene were born.
Following their marriage they lived in Tahlequah and Muskogee working for tent factories. After being married only a year they moved to Beaver working in building construction. In 1954 they moved to Alva and worked for Robert R. Brown. In 1960 they started “Bill Baker Construction Company” in Alva. Bill built over 110 houses, churches, stores, banks and saving and loans.
Through out his lifetime he enjoyed listening to and playing music. He played in nursing homes and at dances. He built a 40x40 room addition at his home just for jam sessions. In 1983 they sold the construction business and went into the saltwater disposal business at Bouse Junction.
He was a member of the Alva Church of God and was also very active in several bowling leagues. He loved gardening and giving vegetables away to family and friends. Bill was proud of his children and grandchildren and loved family get togethers.
Mr. Baker was preceded in death by his wife, Ora Mae on October 23, 2008; his son William Leroy on April 9, 2008, a granddaughter, Patricia Ann Cropp, a great grandson, Trace Baker, his parents, four sisters and two brothers. Bill is survived by three daughters; Virginia and her husband Gary Cropp, Hoisington, Kansas, Dorothy Burt, Bethany, Oklahoma, Sharron and her husband Dave Voth, Springdale, Arkansas and a son and his wife, Terry and Cindy, Carmen, ten grandchildren; Robin Kletke, Luke Cropp, Christy Murphy, Brandon Baker, Shane Baker, Trenton Burt, Jamie Maselli, Chris Baker, Jennifer Williams and Tara Dickson, fifteen great grandchildren, a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be Saturday, December 27, 2008 at 1 p.m. at Wharton Funeral Chapel with Reverend Greg Hook, Pastor, Alva First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Alva Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Wharton funeral Chapel.
Contributions may be made in his memory to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for heart research.
