Alva – funeral services for Myrtle L. Ashton, 73, who died Tuesday morning in a Waynoka hospital, will be at 2 PM Thursday in the Wharton Funeral Chapel in Alva.
The Rev. Jim Ferguson, pastor of the Green Valley Free Methodist Church, will officiate at the rites and burial will be in the Alva Municipal Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Wharton Funeral Chapel of Alva.
Mrs. Ashton was born July 30, 1908, in Beaver County and attended schools there. She received her teaching certificate from Northwestern State at Alva, then taught at Gate.
After her marriage to Joy Paul Ashton August 13, 1928, they made their home in Beaver County, later in Pretty Prairie, Kansas, and in 1932 moved to Alva. She cooked in several restaurants in Alva and in 1958 moved to Hot Sulphur Springs, Colorado.
There she cooked during the winter months at ski lodges and during the summer at dude ranches until returning in 1973 to make her home south of Alva.
She was preceded in death by her husband on March 16, 1962; an infant son and two others, Bob and Jim; a grandson, a sister and two brothers.
Mrs. Ashton is survived by two daughters, Betty Jean (Mrs. Joe) Wylie, Gore, and Nina Mae Millemon, Buena Vista, Colorado; four sons, Paul Wayne Ashton, Aline, Charles Teddy Ashton, Alva, Franklin DeRoy Ashton, Canon City, Colorado, Lowell Stanley Ashton, Kremmling, Colorado; 24 grandchildren, 19 great – grandchildren, a sister, Amy (Mrs. Harry) Wheeler, Houston, Texas; three brothers, Lloyd Watt, Parshall, Colorado, Stanley Watt, Hot Sulphur Springs and Charlie Watt, Oklahoma City.
Mrs. Ashton's family has suggested that those who wish make contributions in her memory to the Heart Fund. Contributions may be made direct or through Wharton's.
