Wyoma Marie Teresa Chervenka was born January 25, 1942 in Elk City, Oklahoma. She was the third child of Edward James Chervenka and Sophia Henrietta (Spieker) Chervenka. She was the first sibling to be born in a hospital. She grew up on a farm 2 miles south of Canute with her 7 siblings; Norbert, Charlene, Loretta, LaDonna Mae, Paulette, Lee Edward, and Mary Ellen. Wyoma passed away on September 5, 2019 at Mangum Hospital after 77 years, 7 months, and 11 days of a wonderful life.
Wyoma grew up wearing handmade dresses sewn from emptied chicken feed sacks. The material had flowers printed on it which may have led to her love of all types of flowers, plants, trees, and shrubs. Wyoma attended school at St. Francis and graduated from Canute Public School. After graduation Wyoma married the love of her life, Louis A. Spitz at St. Francis Catholic Church. They had 4 children. She was always the life of the party even if it was in a wheat field late at night. She loved all kinds of animals, especially her Boxer dogs. She decorated cakes for any occasion and was famous for her “chocolate wacky cake” with bananas on the inside. Wyoma was also infamous for her homemade blackberry wine. She loved family. Anyone Wyoma met was a part of her family for life. Wyoma was a longtime member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, and had a strong Catholic faith. Wyoma's favorite words to say to everyone were “I love you”.Mass of Christian Burial Services will be held Monday, September 9, 2019 at 10:30 A.M. at the St. Matthew Catholic Church officiated by Father Philip Louis and Father Simeon Spitz.
Burial will be held at Saint Frances Cemetery under the direction of Whinery Funeral Service.
