Raphael Schones was born October 7, 1920 in Canute,
Oklahoma to Sadie Marie (Kirk) and George Leo Schones. He passed away
February 6, 2015 at his home in Canute, Oklahoma at the age of 94 years,
3 months and 29 days.
Raphael grew up in the Canute area and attended schools at Holy Family
schools. After his graduation, he helped on the family farm until 1942
when he was drafted into the United States Army and was stationed in
North Africa, stateside, Guam and Sipan serving as a marksman,
truck driver, equipment operator, medic and ambulance driver. Raphael
was discharged in 1946 and was married to Ragine Elizabeth (Kamphaus)
Schones at St. Francis on August 1, 1946. After their marriage, they
made the Canute area their home. Raphael went back to farming, raising
cattle and would do carpentry work during the winters. In 1973, Raphael
and Ragine moved to town and he went to work for Kilhoffer Propane
driving and delivering fuel to farmers and even some oil rigs till his
retirement. Raphael enjoyed wood working and was a perfectionist when it
came to his projects and also spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers Phyllis and Ernest
Schones and 1 sister, Ailene Schones.
He is survived by his wife, Ragine, of the home; 5 children, Dianne
Peffer and husband, Larry, Elk City, OK, George Schones, Canute, OK,
Douglas Schones and wife, Kathy, Canute, OK, Lanell West and husband,
Ray, Okarche, OK and Ray Schones and wife, Cathy, Canute, OK; 12
grandchildren, Shane Peffer, Lance Peffer, Paul Schones, Trudy Evans,
Blake Schones, Amber Schieber, Aaron West, Rayla West, Alexandria West,
Sarah Davis, Rachael Schones and Adam Schones; 16 great grandchildren
and a host of other relatives and friends.
