Leona Schones was born July 17, 1930 in Manning, Iowa to Elizabeth and Leo
Steffes. She passed away July 23, 2016 at Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 86
years and 6 days.
Leona moved with her family as a small child to the Canute area.
She was married to Leo F. Schones at the St. Francis Catholic Church near
Canute, Oklahoma in 1946. They remained in the Canute area where they farmed. In
1957, they moved to Elk City to make their home. Leona's life was mainly focused
on her family and being a loving Mother and Grandmother. She loved playing card
games with her family and teaching her grandchildren how to play.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant daughter, Julie
Ann, a son, Glendean Schones, 1 sister, Anita Hoffman, and 3 brothers, Donald,
Sonny, Bernard Steffes.
She is survived by her daughter, Rose Morris of Elk City, Oklahoma, a son, James
Ray Schones of Elk City, Oklahoma; her daughter-in-law, Cecelia Schones of
Yukon, Oklahoma; 4 grandchildren, Angela Brown of Elk City, Oklahoma, Kyle Brown
of Elk City, Oklahoma, Alan Schones of Elk City, Oklahoma, Dana Trinidad of
Yukon, Oklahoma; 9 great grandchildren, Eric, Kameron, Peyton, Jaxon, Linkyn,
Kristi, Maranda, Ashlee and Ashlynn; 1 great great granddaughter, Peyton; her
brothers and sisters, Delores Simon of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Betty Lindsy of
Florida, Geneva Waller of Midwest City, Oklahoma, Cornelia Gelner of Granite,
Oklahoma, Mary Ann Gunter of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Gerald Steffes of Oklahoma
City, Oklahoma, Bobby Steffes of Canute, Oklahoma, Billy Steffes, Leon Steffes
of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and a host of other relatives and friends.
