Martha Elizabeth (Chandler) (Taylor) Howell

Funeral services for Martha E. Taylor Howell were held April 22, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Sentinel, Oklahoma.

Interment followed in the Sentinel Cemetery with Pastor Keith Gillham officiating. Services were under the direction of McClure Funeral Home of Sentinel, Oklahoma.

Martha was the daughter of William David and Rebecca (Green) Chandler. She was born September 6, 1915 in Sevier County Arkansas. Martha departed this life April 19, 2003 at the Cordell Memorial Hospital in Cordell, Oklahoma at the age of 87 years, 7 months, and 13 days.

Martha and Vernon Taylor were united in marriage July 16, 1932 in Sevier County Arkansas. They moved to Sentinel in December of 1941 from Dierks, Arkansas. After Vernon's death Martha married George Howell on December 13, 1956 at Dill City, Oklahoma. She was a very strong willed independent woman who provided for her family. Martha had owned and operated two cafes in Sentinel, worked for Elzie Ward at the cleaners and baby sat for many children in Sentinel. She was a Gold Star Mother and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Martha was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sentinel where she worked in the church nursery for many years.

Survivors include her children, Vernon D. Taylor and wife, Loyce of Cordell, Bill Taylor and wife, Gale of Dill City, Margaret Francis of Sentinel, Ginger Pearce and husband, James of Sentinel; a step-son, Elmer Loyd Howell of Alabama; brothers Rufus Chandler of Sentinel, and William David Chandler of Poteau, Oklahoma; 11 grandsons, 8 granddaughters, a host of great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
