HOME
VICI, DEWEY CO, OK
(permission granted)
She was born July 11, 1938 in Cement, Caddo County, OK
to the late Hershel Montgomery and Ester Myrtle Tilley. She was raised in
Sentinel, OK. After graduation in 1956, she moved to Oklahoma City where she
worked at Western Union and met Charles Wesley Lanham. In 1958, they married
and lived in Oklahoma City and had four children, before moving to Houston,
TX in 1971. Her and Charles also lived in Dayton, TX, Lake Jackson, TX, and
New Orleans, LA before returning to Sentinel, OK.
She worked many places over the years, a church secretary (Royalwood
Baptist, Houston), an insurance office secretary (Holt Insurance, Dayton,
TX), and co-manager with Charles of several Motel 6 establishments and a
bank teller (Southwest State Bank, now All American Bank, Sentinel, OK).
After Charles’ death, she met Gerald Cunningham while visiting Charles’
brother and sister-in-law in Vici.
She and Gerald married April 25, 2006 and they made their home in Vici, OK.
She enjoyed living the life as a farmer’s wife. She enjoyed playing SkipBo
and dominoes. While Lola’s health allowed, they enjoyed playing cards,
having lunch and volunteering at the Vici Senior Center. Lola spent the last
two years in the Vici Nursing Home, due to complications caused by a stroke
and Alzheimer’s, with Gerald faithfully joining her for every meal. Lola
believed in Christ’s redemption and looked forward to eternal life. She will
be greatly missed, but will always be loved and remembered fondly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother James Montgomery; husband
of 43 years, Charles Lanham and step-daughter Cheryl Roberts.
