Billy Ray "Bill" Bookout

Billy Ray Bookout was born on the family farm July 4, 1929 in Dill
City, Oklahoma to Iris Ella and Orbin Lee Bookout. He passed away August
29, 2015 at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 86 years, 1 month and
25 days.
 
Bill grew up in Dill City, Oklahoma and graduated in 1948. After
graduation, he was a truck driver on the harvest and milk route. He was
married to Bonnie June (Crabb) Bookout at Dill City, Oklahoma on October
19, 1949. They remained in Dill City where he went to work for the Pay
Master Gin hauling cotton seed for a few years until he obtained
employment with Washita County. In the late 50's Bill began working for
the city of Dill City as the water superintendent and also later was the
water superintendent at Clinton-Sherman Air Base. He also served his
community from 1964 to 1984 on the Dill City Volunteer Fire Department
where he served as the Fire Chief and was later inducted into the
Oklahoma Firefighters Museum. While he was with the fire department he
traveled to Iowa to pick up the first fire truck for Dill City. Bill was
also on the Dill City School Board. Bill retired in 1989 and farmed his
family's land. Bill enjoyed playing Domino's, Pitch, and Solitare on the
computer, but his passion in life was his grandchildren and spending
time with them and the rest of the family.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jerry Lee Bookout,
daughter-in-law, Pattie Bookout and 1 great grandson, Seth Cordell.
 
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie, of the home; 5 children, Carolyn
Sue Gatlin and husband, Bob, Lawton, OK, Elaine VanVranken and husband,
Donnie, Edmond, OK, Linda Shipp and husband, Snuffy, Fletcher, OK, Ray
Bookout, Burns Flat, OK, and Mark Bookout and wife, Shelley, Dill City,
OK; 10 grandchildren, Tori Villegas and husband, Isidro, Burns Flat, OK,
Misty Cordell and husband, Jason, Elk City, OK, Tembra McKeaigg and
husband, Odie, Tulsa, OK, Wendi Shipp, Edmond, OK, Julie Cole and
husband, Chad, Fletcher, OK, Raylee Bookout, Burns Flat, OK, Renee'
Bookout, Burns Flat, OK, Michael Bookout, Burns Flat, OK, B.J. Bookout,
Bessie, OK and Rusty Bookout, Dill City, OK; 12 great grandchildren,
Shaydie Villegas, Cobie Villegas, Ashtyn Villegas, Memphis Cordell,
Raydon Cordell, Pate Cole, Bella Cole, Kaden Williams, Logan Williams,
Ransom Adams, Kinley McKeaigg and Eian McKeaigg; 1 sister, Gailya Sweet
and husband, Kenneth, Oklahoma City, OK and a host of other relatives
and friends.
