(permission granted)
Ronald, better known as “RD”, was born on September 9, 1934 as the only child to Jacob D. and Esther Hiebert Schultz. He rode his horse to a little country elementary school every day and then attended Cordell High School. He helped with the family farm until he went to college at Oklahoma Panhandle State University where he earned a BS in Commerce in 1956. It was there that he met and married the love of his life for nearly 70 years, Emma Shiflett. Emma jokes that RD never asked her to marry him, just casually talking about their future as if she assumed they would marry.
RD took a job with the OSU physical plant in Stillwater where he worked until his tour of active duty for the Air Force Reserve as an airplane electrician. Upon returning to OSU in 1962, he accepted employment with University Architectural Services as project manager where he worked until 1980. He and Emma then accepted positions at Panhandle State where RD worked as Vice-President of Business and then later worked for the Panhandle Foundation. Upon retiring, he maintained a position on the Foundation board for a number of years. RD and Emma moved to Canton in 1996 where they have enjoyed fishing and generously sharing their chicken eggs and bountiful gardens of fruits and vegetables for the past 25 years. RD has graced many people with his talent of playing the guitar that he learned as a youth by his Aunt Edna Karber, along-side friends and family through the years, especially in church and retirement homes during his later years.Condolences may be made at www.piercefuneralhomes.com.
