Winona Lynch, daughter of Herbert B. Merrill and Ella
(Emerson) Merrill was born November 17, 1915 at Cowden, OK. She passed
away May 12, 2002 in Oklahoma City at the age of 86.
Services were held at 10:00 a.m., May 15, 2002 at the
First Baptist Church, Cordell with interment following at Lawnview
Cemetery, Cordell. Services were under the direction of Jack Loftiss
Funeral Home of Cordell.
Winona attended school at Cowden and graduated in 1934.
She attended the Valley View Baptist Church and was saved at the age of
12. She was united in marriage with Elmer Lynch, June 2, 1935 at Mt.
View, OK. To this union two children were born, LaVonne and Keith.
Winona was a homemaker and lived most of her life in
Washita County. She taught Sunday School for many years and also helped
with Vacation Bible School. Winona was a member of the First Baptist
Church in Cordell, where she lived.
Winona had a passion for The Cordell Beacon and read it
cover to cover every week. Her favorite color was red. She enjoyed
having coffee every morning with the ladies at the bank, but most of all
she enjoyed her family.
Winona is survived by her daughter, LaVonne Holmes and
husband Jim of Clinton, OK, her son, Keith Lynch and wife Karen of
Manhattan, KS, five grandchildren, Melinda, Angela, Kenny, Kevin and
Kip, five great grandsons, Taylor, Cale, Cameron, Bryce and Aaron, one
sister, Frieda Jones and husband Bill of Cordell, one brother, Alvis
Merrill and wife Bernice of Clinton, OK, two sister-in-laws, Connie
Merrill of Cordell and Frances Merrill of Clinton, and a host of
friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband
Elmer, four brothers Linden, Eben, Leroy and H.B. Merrill, two
sister-in-laws, Opal Merrill and Lavern Merrill.
