Richard Hines, 76, former Cordell resident died at Baylor Hospital in Irving, TX August 4.

Funeral services for Richard Hines will be held Wednesday, August 7 at 2 p.m. at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Cordell.

Burial, under the direction of McClure Funeral Home of Cordell, will follow in Lawnview Cemetery.

Richard Slaten Hines, Sr., son of Laurie D. and Gladys J. (Slaten) Hines, was born May 27, 1926 at Mangum, OK. He departed this life August 4, 2002 in his sleep at home in Irving, TX at the age of 76 years, two months and seven days.

Richard grew up and attended school in Cordell. He volunteered for the U.S. Navy in 1944 and served until 1946. Richard was united in marriage to Dorothy E. Lemasters, April 28, 1946 at Cordell. To this union three sons were born. Richard and Dorothy made their home in Norman while he attended the University of Oklahoma from 1946 to 1950, earning a degree in civil engineering. Richard worked in the construction industry working his way through the company to partner. Richard was involved in many building projects in the southern and southeastern United States. Many of these projects for NASA. During his career the family lived in many cities including Amarillo, Lubbock and Pasadena, TX, Gulfport, Mississippi, New Orleans, Louisiana, Birmingham, Alabama, Jackson, Mississippi and Irving, Texas where they had lived since retiring in 1980. A member of the Church of Christ, Richard enjoyed bowling, golf, snooker/pool, and art, especially oil painting. He was an avid OU fan.

Preceding him in death were one son, Darrell Keith in infancy in 1954; his parents; grandparents, Ed and Addie Hines and George and Ozell Slaten.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of the home in Irving; two sons: Richard Hines, Jr., of Pearl River, Louisiana and Randall S. Hines of Irving,TX; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Richard S. Hines were held Wednesday August 7 at 2:00 p.m. at the McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Cordell, with H.L. Shirey officiating.

Interment followed under the direction of McClure Funeral Home at Lawnview Cemetery in Cordell. Memorial contributions may be made in his honor to the American Cancer Society or the American Lung Association.
