Graveside services for retired former Hammon teacher, John Bell, Jr., 74, Corpus Christi, Texas, at the Lawnview Cemetery in Cordell, Oklahoma. Bell died June 29, 1998 in Corpus Christi.

He was born on September 27, 1923 at Sweetwater, Oklahoma the son of John Howard and Elsie Durland Bell. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from February 1943 until December 1945 as a bombardier on a B-24 in the Pacific. Following his discharge he attended Southwestern State College in Weatherford graduating in 1949. He taught math and industrial arts in Dill City, Arapaho, Butler and Hammon and for many years he coached junior high basketball and baseball before retiring in 1985.

He was united in marriage to Alice Bell on January 17, 1945 at the First Baptist Church in Cordell. She preceded him in death April of 1995.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Bell.

Survivors include a son, James Curtis and his wife, Pat Bell of Canyon Lake, CA; one daughter Deborah Jean Denton of Oklahoma City; five grandchildren and one great grandchild and a brother, Kenneth Bell.
