Perry grew up in Canute, Oklahoma and graduated from high school in 1991. After graduation he began his career in the oil field. Even though Perry had a career in the oil field his joy and passion was helping his dad farming and ranching on the family farm. Perry was a "people person" and knew and loved everyone in Canute and could call them by name. In turn, people could always count on Perry for a good laugh or a joke here and there. Perry was a perfectionist and enjoyed caring for machinery and equipment and made sure that they were ready when needed. He also enjoyed spending time with his children, other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother and maternal and paternal grandparents.
He is survived by his 3 children, Chandler Merz and wife, Ausha, Elk City, OK, Holden Merz, Canute, OK and Addie Jo Merz, Russellville, AR; 3 grandchildren, Mayleigh Merz, Silas Merz and J.R.
