Paul Raymond Kamphaus was born on December 3rd, 1942 in Elk City, Oklahoma to Pauline Agnes (Mahl) and Franklin George Kamphaus. He passed away on February 14, 2019 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 76.

Paul grew up on his parent’s farm near Canute, Oklahoma and attended school in Burns Flat, Oklahoma. He graduated from high school there in 1961. Paul then entered college at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford and obtained a bachelor’s degree in mathematics. Following graduation he was employed with an oil field company before being informed of his impending draft into the military. Paul enlisted in the army and served during the Vietnam War era in Yuma, Arizona. After discharge in 1971, Paul returned home to assist in running the family farm. After Franklin’s death in 1976, Paul continued to run the daily farming operations and later obtained employment as a rural mail carrier in Canute and Foss. After Pauline’s death in 2004, Paul purchased the farm, and in 2011 retired from the postal service. Paul continued farming up until shortly before his death. He is remembered as a man of quick wit, kindness and generosity, and welcoming to friends, family, and strangers. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, and bowling. He was a fan of University of Oklahoma athletics and often attended football games in the fall. He also was an active member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Elk City, and served with the Knights of Columbus. He also volunteered with Meals on Wheels. Paul is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his 4 brothers, Dwain Kamphaus and wife Clarene of Clinton, Oklahoma; David Kamphaus of Edmond, Oklahoma; Tim Kamphaus and wife Jo of Yukon, Oklahoma; John Kamphaus and wife Tamara of Dallas, Texas. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins, and friends. He will be deeply missed.
