Loraine Kamphaus was born September 25, 1928 in Elk City, Oklahoma to
Elizabeth and Noah Atchley. She passed away October 2, 2016 surrounded by her
loving family at her home in Canute, Oklahoma at the age of 88 years and 7 days.
Loraine begin school at Ravia, Oklahoma before the family returned to Elk City
where she graduated from Elk City High School. She was employed at the Green
Frog Café before beginning her career in banking, working as cashier. She moved
to San Francisco and remained there for several months before returning to
Oklahoma and working at First National Bank of Elk City.
She was married to LeRoy E. Kamphaus at Clayton, New Mexico on November 11,
1956 and they lived in Elk City for a short time before moving to Canute to make
their home. She continued to work at First National Bank until becoming employed
at First State Bank of Canute. She remained there for 13 years and then returned
to First National Bank of Elk City, working there for the next 20 years until
retiring after 47 years in banking. Loraine enjoyed reading the Daily Oklahoman
everyday, watching her TV shows and gardening. Her family will always remember
her favorite quote, "Save the pieces".
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant son, Lane Edward
Kamphaus, 1 sister, Dorothy Williams, brothers, Rex, John L., Kenneth and Noah
Ray Atchley, half sisters and brother, Berti Adams, Pearl Cline, Donnie Martin,
Annie Wallace, Roxi Bryant, Joe A. Atchley.
She is survived by her 3 daughters, Lisa Welsh and husband, Pat, Lana Merz and
husband, Kevin, Lara Langley and husband, Kevin, all of Canute, OK; 4
grandchildren, Nathan Merz and wife, Kaitlyn, Houston, TX, Kyle Merz, Oklahoma
City, OK, Jeremy Welsh, Canute, OK, Jarrod Welsh and wife, Trish, Weatherford,
OK; 6 great grandchildren, Brandon, Erica, Jacoby, Symphony, Jonah and Arwen, a
great great grandson, Keith, 3 sisters-in-law, Pat Kamphaus, Dorothy Atchley,
and Deloris Atchley and a host of other relatives and friends.
