James "Jim" Maurice Kos was born November 25, 1958 in Norwalk, California to
Maurice Kos and Carol Bustrum. He passed away March 12, 2016 in Clerment,
Florida at the age of 57 years, 3 months and 17 days.
Jim grew up in Downey, California and graduated in 1976. After graduation he was
married to Julie Ann (Hundley) Kos in Downey, California on December 3, 1977.
They made their home in Cypress, California where Jim mainly worked in the
construction industry for close to 20 years. In the spring of 1998 Jim and Julie
moved to Canute, Oklahoma where Jim took over the operation of Kos Machine shop.
In 2009 he started his career in the aviation industry and began classes at
Canadian Valley Technology Center to obtain his airframe and powerplant (A&P)
mechanic certification. After obtaining his certification in 2011 he later
obtained his inspection authorization (AI) certification in 2013. Besides travel
regarding his work he loved traveling with his wife and family especially on
cruises. Jim also enjoyed acting with the Red Carpet Community Theatre, judging
BBQ contests with the Lone Star Barbecue Society, tinkering on projects,
entertaining guests at his home and spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Ronda Kos-Turner, brother, Rick Kos and
one niece, Ronda O'Neill.
He is survived by his wife, Julie, of the home; 3 children, Jason Kos and wife,
Jaime, Canute, OK, Eric Kos and wife, Hannah, Severance, CO and Alison Atha and
husband, Jared, Canute, OK; 5 grandchildren, Jocelyn, Travis, Jack, Lucy and
Katherine; his parents, Maurice Kos and wife, Joan, Canute, OK, Carol Bustrum,
Walker Lake, NV and Dorothy Shirley, McAlester, OK; 14 brothers and sisters and
a host of other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the James Kos Memorial Fund
benefiting the Elk City EAA Chapter 1553 set up at Interbank, Elk City.
