Juanita Pearl Blakemore was born March 18, 1917 in
Dougherty, Oklahoma to Mary and Georgen Spears. She passed away April 5, 2017 at
Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 100 years and 17 days.
Pearl, being the daughter of parents who traveled following the cotton crops,
grew up in various places throughout Oklahoma and Texas. At the age of 16 she
married Lewis Blakemore on August 4, 1933 and they made their home north of
Canute. Two years later, Peal and Lewis had a son, J.L. and Pearl dedicated her
life to caring for her husband and son and being a homemaker. In 1994 after
Lewis passed away Pearl continued to live on the home place. She later married
Clarence Marshall in the early 2000's. Pearl and Clarence enjoyed going to
church and sightseeing. When Clarence passed away in 2004 Pearl continued to
make the home place her home until the age of 96 when ill health forced her to
move to Elkwood Assisted Living Center. She enjoyed caring for her flowers,
crocheting and sewing and was also a member of the Custer County Home
Demonstration Club and was active with the Custer County Election Board. Pearl
was also a member of the Eastside Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, 5 sisters and 4
brothers.
She is survived by her son, J.L. Blakemore and wife, Kay, Yukon, OK; 2
grandchildren, Robbie Blakemore, Oklahoma City, OK and Lori Downey and husband,
Jeff, Yukon, OK; 4 great grandchildren, Michael Blakemore and wife, Julia,
Nashville, TN, Brett Blakemore, Oklahoma City, OK, Jonathan Downey, Brooklyn, NY
and Emily Downey, Yukon, OK and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family suggest memorial donations be made to Eastside Baptist Church, 421
North Booth, Elk City, OK 73644.
