Graveside services for Dewitt Elliott were held October
28 at 10:30 a.m. at Brethern Cemetery, with Dean Derieg and H.L. Shirey
officiating.
Burial was under the direction of McClure Funeral Home.
Allen Dewitt Elliott, son of Arthur Allen and Eliza Jane
(Hill) Elliott, was born March 17, 1938 in Washita County, Oklahoma. He
departed this life October 24, 2002 at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma
City.
He was united in marriage to Hazel Haff in Vernon, Texas
on August 21, 1967.
Dewitt had lived in this area most of his life. He
graduated from Cloud Chief High School in 1957. He served his country in
the U.S. Army, spending some time in Germany.
He worked for 21 years for MODA Fire Department. For the
past nine years he has been employed by the City of Cordell, first with
the water department and then as police dispatcher.
His enjoyment came from working, reading, attending
auctions, particularly antiques, yard work and most especially his four
grandchildren who knew him as "Poppy".
Survivors include his wife, Hazel of the home; father,
Art Elliott of Cordell; two children: Kelli Elliott of Mingus, Texas and
Chris Elliott of Indianapolis, Indiana; sister: Lanette Clark of
Clinton; grandchildren: Christopher II, Brogan Dawn, Hallie and Jake; a
host of nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Tipton Children's Home,
American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.
