Funeral Services for Errol Dee Calvert, Sr., 73, of Talala, were held Monday, February 10, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Ramona, OK. The Reverend Dan Korver officiated and burial was in the Ramona Cemetery in Ramona, OK.
Casket Bearers were Aaron Calvert, Colton Calvert, Dempsey Calvert, Zane Calvert, Christopher Calvert, and Matthew Erz. Honorary Casket Bearers were David Calvert and Jeff Smith. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home, Sperry.
Errol was born September 10, 1940 in Tulsa, OK to Earl Ray and Katherine Louise (Jones) Calvert. He passed away February 5, 2014 in Tulsa, OK.Our father was a machinist, avid hunter, fisherman, athlete, and horticulturist, in addition to being a dad that was always there for us. An excellent archer, Errol bagged state record buck for 1963. He received numerous horticulture awards. Errol also received numerous athletic awards, particularly for wrestling and received the Mister Oklahoma Spirit Award for body building in his late 50’s following a bout with kidney cancer. Asked for confirmation, just before his death if he had accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior, he replied, “Yes, in God’s perfect timing”. Thank you Dad, for all that you have sacrificed for us. Thank for all that you have taught us and all the memories that you leave with us. We love you and we will do our best to live our lives in a manner that will honor you and our Savior, Jesus Christ.
He is survived by his companion of 11 years, Paula Walker of Talala; sons,
Errol Calvert, II of Tulsa, Michael Calvert of Ramona, and Brian Calvert of
Ramona; daughters, Christine Erz of Tulsa and Shawnda Stone of Oologah; 17
grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, with more on the way; ex-wife,
Maryjane Calvert; and many other relatives and friends.
