Mrs. Blanche E. Sumpter, 91, a resident of southeast
Bartlesville, Oklahoma, died at 6:35 P.M. on Monday, October 15, 2018 at
The Journey Home in Bartlesville.
Funeral services for Mrs. Sumpter will be held at 2 P.M. on Saturday,
October 20, 2018 at the New Harmony Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Cox
officiating.
Interment will be in the Oglesby Cemetery directed by the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory.
The Sumpter family will receive guests at the Stumpff Funeral Home on
Friday evening from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M.
Mrs. Sumpter was born in rural Bartlesville, Oklahoma on November 15,
1926 to Grace Olive Stiles Hawkins and Charley Lewis Hawkins. She
attended Steel’s Camp grade school and graduated from Ramona High
School. She was married to Irvin Leon Sumpter August 9, 1945. She spent
18 years living in various states with her husband during his Air Force
career. Following his retirement from the Air Force in 1963, they
returned to Oklahoma where they purchased Blanche’s parents farm and
raised their four children, cattle and pecans. Mrs. Sumpter was an
active devoted member of the New Harmony Baptist Church where she taught
children’s Sunday School and sang in the choir. She was very devoted to
her husband and family and loved the Lord.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin “Sarge” Sumpter on May
19, 1997, a son, Irvin Leon “Lonnie Sumpter, a granddaughter, Melissa
Sumpter, her parents, Charley Lewis Hawkins and Grace Olive Stiles
Hawkins, five sisters and three brothers.
Mrs. Sumpter is survived by two sons, Randall Sumpter and his wife,
Nancy of College Station, Texas and Kenneth Sumpter and his wife, Diane
of Enid, Okla., one daughter, Cheryl Sumpter of Tulsa, Okla., a
daughter-in-law, Katrin Sumpter of Tulsa, Okla., a brother, William
“Bill” Hawkins of Bartlesville, a sister, Marguerite Eastin of Ramona,
Okla., two grandchildren, Tricia Hanska and husband Michael of Kansas
City, Missouri and Nicholas Sumpter and wife Kimberly of Stillwater,
Okla., and seven great grandchildren, Nathan Hanska, Levi Hanska, Seth
Hanska, Rebekah Hanska and Asher Hanska all of Kansas City, Missouri and
Eleanor Sumpter and Henry Hawkins Sumpter both of Stillwater, Okla.
