Diane Farel Sumpter
May 17, 1952 - August 13, 2023

Diane Farel Sumpter, 71, of Enid, Oklahoma passed away on August 13th, 2023, after living several years with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). Diane was born in Ponca City, OK on May 17th, 1952, to John Langham and Priscilla (Webber) Langham.

Diane grew up in Pawhuska, OK where she loved to dance and enjoyed learning, and eventually teaching a variety of dance styles. After graduating from Pawhuska High School, Diane attended Oklahoma State University (OSU) and continued her love of dance through various dance classes and performing in numerous recitals while pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER). Diane also grew up playing golf with her parents. She was a member of the very first OSU women's varsity golf team that established a future women's golf program at OSU.

Diane met the love of her life, Kenneth Sumpter, when he asked her to attend the Air Force ROTC Military Ball their freshman year at OSU. Of course, she said, "yes" because it was a dance. Little did they know that dance would lead to 50 years of marriage and a life full of adventure together. Diane and Ken were married in August of 1973 and enjoyed their early years of marriage in Stillwater, OK. After graduating from OSU and with a growing family, they embarked on their many adventures that would take them to Oregon, New Mexico, Texas, back to Oklahoma and even to Germany. Everywhere they lived they took the opportunity to experience local culture, explore the outdoors, visit museums and historic sites, and even castles and Roman ruins in Germany and surrounding countries.

Diane leaves a legacy of a love for the Lord, love of family and friends, and a heart of service. Everywhere she lived she was involved with her children's lives at home and at school, serving at church, and meeting new friends. She participated in the Officer's Wives Club (OWC) and supported her Air Force family in any way she could. After Ken's retirement, they moved to Enid, OK where Diane served at Garland Road Baptist Church for several years as VBS Director and Sunday School teacher, as well as attending Falls Creek with the youth group as a cook. She also sang in the choir, played the handbells on special occasions, and worked as the church secretary for many years. Diane also taught P.E. for a homeschool coop and volunteered at the Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI) where she dedicated her time serving her community.

One of Diane's greatest joys was her 7 grandchildren and spending time with them. She will be remembered for always having a smile, good snuggles, and making them feel loved. They enjoyed baking and eating blueberry muffins with grandma and going to church together. Grandma was always ready to have fun, be silly, play a game, or let them play Angry Birds on her phone. They will forever cherish their time spent with Grandma.

Diane is preceded in death by her parents John and Priscilla Langham, daughter Melissa Sumpter and son Nicholas Sumpter.

Diane is survived by her husband Kenneth Sumpter, her daughter and son-in-law Tricia and Mike Hanska and grandchildren Nathan, Levi, Seth, Rebekah, and Asher Hanska and Eleanor and Henry Sumpter and daughter-in-law Kim Cox. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law Barry and Lois Langham, nephew Chris Langham and family, and niece Lori Langham, along with many other beloved family members.
