Daniel Nelson Stiles
April 3, 1932 - November 27, 2022

Daniel Nelson Stiles, 90, of Bartlesville, passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2022, at his home.

Daniel was born March 4, 1932, in Oglesby, to Clarence and Mamie (Fields) Stiles. He attended Oglesby Public School, graduating in 1950. It was there he met the love of his life, Peggy Ann Topping, and they became high school sweethearts. Dan then attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, earning his degree in education. While in college, Daniel earned money doing carpentry work, especially trim carpentry.

Daniel and Peggy united in marriage on December 10, 1954, shortly before he left for military service. He was stationed in South Dakota, because the military decided to put Daniel's fine carpentry skills to work. After his military service ended the family made their home in Oglesby. Together Daniel and Peggy decided to relocate to rural Alaska to teach for the next 10 years, returning home to the family farm during the summer breaks. While in Alaska, the couple were able to introduce many new things, like candy and ice cream cones, to people living in primitive areas of Alaska.

Daniel and Peggy moved back to Oglesby and taught at Caney Valley for five years and once again returned to Alaska, where they taught for an additional 10 years, before returning to Oglesby.

Daniel loved to pick and crack pecans, which served as a perfect match to Peggy's love of cooking pecan pies. Daniel took care of the farm where they raised cattle, quarter horses and alfalfa. He was a jokester and enjoyed telling stories. He told his son that it was always a good thing to have good neighbors, but it was a better thing to BE a good neighbor, and Daniel was a man of his word.

Survivors include his three children, Ben Lando Stiles and his wife Dana of Sapulpa, Serina Lynette McGuire of Bartlesville, and Tina Annette Stiles of Bartlesville; four grandchildren, Brittany, Bradley, Danny, and Yvonne; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy; his parents, Clarence and Mamie Stiles; and his 10 siblings.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 3, 2022, at Oglesby Assembly of God Church with the Reverend Clarence Lambert officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at the Oglesby Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Carter Davis and Davis Family Funeral Home – Dewey Chapel. Online condolences and remembrances may be shared at www.DavisFamilyFuneralHome.com.
