BARTLESVILLE, WASHINGTON CO, OK

Mr. James Alfred Fugate, 91, of Bartlesville, died at 9:21 P.M. on
Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at the St. John Medical Center in Tulsa.
Funeral services for Mr. Fugate will be held at 2 P.M. on Friday, March
17, 2017 at the Stumpff Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ike Amaro of the
Spirit Church officiating. Interment will be in the Ochelata Cemetery
under the direction of the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established to the Spirit
Church Food Pantry, 900 S. Dewey Ave., Bartlesville, Oklahoma, 74003.
Mr. Fugate was born on November 14, 1925 south of Bartlesville to Alfred
Washington Fugate and Ruby Mae (Payton) Fugate. He grew up in the same
area and attended Fish Creek, Ochelata and Ramona schools. He entered
the United States Navy and served in the South Pacific where he was
wounded in action and received the Purple Heart. Following his Honorable
Discharge, he returned to the Bartlesville area and was married to
Vernie Louise Tennent on June 2, 1947 at the Bartlesville court house.
They made their home in this area since that time and Mr. Fugate was
active in farming, operating an oil lease and raising cattle. He was an
avid gardener and enjoyed cutting wood and playing cards. He also liked
to hunt and fish and Texas Rangers baseball. He was a member of the
American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans.
Mr. Fugate is survived by his wife, Vernie Louise Fugate of the home,
three children, Judy Haberly and husband Jim, James D. Fugate and wife
Elaine and Brenda Robertson and husband Mike, all of Bartlesville, six
grandchildren, Kenneth Haberly, Dwight Haberly, James D. Fugate Jr.,
Jeffrey Scott Fugate, Michael Robertson and Charity Robertson, 14 great
grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in
death by his parents and one sister, Joann Crossman.

Mrs. Vernie Louise Fugate, 90, of Bartlesville, died at 6:05 A.M. on Thursday at The Journey Home in Bartlesville.
Private graveside services will be held at the Ochelata Cemetery directed by the Stumpff Funeral Home.
At the request of the family there is no visitation planned.
Mrs. Fugate was born at Ramona, Oklahoma on August 28, 1930 the daughter of William Ross and Dolly Nora (Overacker) Tennent. She grew up and received her education in the Ramona area and she was married to James Alfred Fugate in Bartlesville on June 2, 1947. They made their home all of their married life south of Bartlesville. She had been employed at the Woolworths and Anthonys stores in Bartlesville and was also active as a homemaker. She loved the Lord and was a devout Christian. She was a wonderful mother who loved her family and liked to tease her daughters, but her son was her favorite. She was always sweet unless losing at cards and she loved maple bars. She is counting on God having maple bars available.
Survivors include her three children, Judy Louise Haberly and husband Jim, James D. Fugate and wife Elaine and Brenda Robertson and husband Mike, all of Bartlesville, six grandchildren, Kenneth Haberly, Dwight Haberly, James D. Fugate Jr., Jeffrey Scott Fugate, Michael Robertson and Charity Robertson, 14 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, one brother and by her husband, James Alfred Fugate on March 14, 2017.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to The Journey Home, 900 N.E. Washington Blvd., Bartlesville, Oklahoma, 74006.
