Louis Ray Foster, 63, of Ochelata, began his new journey to heaven, Tuesday, in Tulsa.

Lifelong area resident Louis was born the son of Warden Frances and Billie Inez (Combs) Foster on July 21, 1953, in Bartlesville. He attended Caney Valley High School with the Class of 1972. Louis was an industrious man and worked a variety of jobs with Phillips Petroleum, the local coke plant, and Drisco Pipe connected with Phillips. In the last several years, he returned to Caney Valley Schools and worked as a custodian and bus driver. He loved the kids and being around them. He finally retired five years ago, but stayed active with his large family in the area, driving family and friends to appointments and even taking a few selfies.

Louis wed his beloved wife Clara Mae Morris on Nov. 12, 1992, in Vera, OK. They were introduced by two relatives who knew them well: Louis’s niece and Clara’s sister Donna. Louis brought his daughter Rachel on their first date and after dating for six months, they tied the knot. This month Louis and Clara celebrated 24 years of marriage.

Louis was a man of strong Christian faith and character. His favorite pastimes involved a house full of family, cooking, and playing games. This past summer, Louis fulfilled his lifelong dream of having a family vacation with his children and grandchildren. He loved experimenting with new recipes and sharing his creations with others. He made fudge for all the girls at school and everyone wanted Louis' homemade fudge. Louis loved music whether listening, singing or playing guitar with anyone who would play with him. His favorite music was hymns, bluegrass, jazz and old rock and roll. Clara was a little bit country and Louis was a little bit rock and roll. He was proud of his Indian heritage. Louis became a member of Nowata County Cherokee Association and volunteered his time helping with parades, taking care of the new building and assisting with anything the club needed.

Louis is survived by his wife Clara of the home; five children, Rachel Jackson and Mac of Ramona, Jeremy Foster and Lisa of Liberal, KS, Angela Ferman of Tulsa, Sarah Foster of Ochelata, John Foster and Miranda of Ochelata; three brothers Larry Foster and Kil Cha of Tulsa, Richard Foster and Diana of Ochelata, Kent Foster and Di of Ramona; six grandchildren, Elizabeth Foster, Josh Ferman, Codey Ferman, Paige Foster, Lyllie Earle, Jasper Foster; as well as a host of other family, nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Jerry Foster and Danny Foster; and two sisters, Francis Phillips and Linda Childress.

Visitation will be held Friday,12-8 and Saturday, 10-12. Louis’s family will receive friends at Davis Family Funeral Home, 918-534-3030, 113 S. Osage (Hwy. 75), Dewey, on Friday, November 25, from 6-8 p.m.

Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, at the Ochelata Cemetery. Pastors Jack Richey and Charles Richey of Happy Hill Church are officiating. Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home. Online condolences and memories may be shared with Louis’s family at www.DavisFamilyFuneralHome.com.
