DEWEY, WASHINGTON CO, OK
(permission granted)
Zella Louise Avey of Tulsa
was a loving wife and mother
of seven, grandmother of 23
and friend to many. She died
Saturday in Tulsa after 53
years of life in her home
state of Oklahoma.
Zella was born the daughter
of Riley Lee and Zella
Maxine (Caviness) Nichol on
Aug. 20, 1962, in Tahlequah
. She was raised and
educated in Tahlequah. Later
in life Zella moved to Beggs
where she lived for many
years and made many close
and special friends. For the
past several years she lived
in Tulsa with her husband
Harrell Wayne “Pete”
McGuire.
Zella easily made friends -
not just friends but friends
that become family. Her
passion in life was her kids
and grandkids and she often
had as many as 15 at her
house at any one time. As
her kids were growing up
Zella took great interest in
their school activities and
helped out with the sports
they were involved in. Zella
loved football, especially
the New Orleans Saints, so
she collected anything with
their logo or name. She
enjoyed camping trips to
Tahlequah which were always
great fun especially when
other family members would
join in. But most of all
Zella is remembered for the
loving care she showered on
her 23 grandchildren.
Zella is survived by her
husband “Pete”; seven
children, Larry Avey, Kevin
Avey, Amanda Avey, Harrell
Wayne Avey, Jessie Avey,
Nikki Avey and Jenifer
McGuire; three brothers,
R.J. Lee Nichol, Ronnie Lee
Nichol and Jerry Neal
Nichol; one sister Barbara
Mauman; and 23
grandchildren. She is
preceded in death by her
parents and one brother
Ronni Lee Nichol.
Graveside services will be
held 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb.
19, 2016, at the Ochelata
Cemetery. Services are under
the direction of Carter
Davis and the Davis Family
Funeral Home. Online
