"Kaz" Zonko, 92, resident of Copan, OK, passed away
May 1, 2016 in Broken Arrow, OK.
Graveside services for Kazimierz "Kaz" Zonko will be
held at 11:00 am, Thursday, May 5, 2016 at the
Memorial Park Cemetery in Bartlesville, Oklahoma,
under the direction of Stumpff Funeral Home.
Kaz was born January 20, 1924, in Siedlce, Poland to
Wladyslaw & Aleksandra Zonko, and passed away
Sunday, May 1, 2016 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
When he was sixteen, Kaz was captured and taken out
of Poland. After 5 years as a prisoner, he escaped
from the German concentration camp and subsequently
joined the Polish forces guarding the shores around
Scotland and England.
After the war, he worked in the coal mines as one of
the Bevin Boys at night, and went to college during
the day earning Mechanical & Electrical Engineering
degrees in England.
He worked installing and improving manufacturing
equipment, traveling all over the world. He came to
Bartlesville in 1977 to work at the National Zinc
Company plant. It was there Kaz met the love of his
life, Diane. They were married for 37 years. He
retired from National Zinc in September, 1993.
Kaz was preceded in death by his parents, six
brothers and two sisters .
He is survived by his wife Diane of Copan; sons,
Victor Zonko; Alexander Zonko Blake; daughter,
Katharine Murry, and twelve grandchildren, all of
England. Kaz is also survived by four step-children
and their families.
