TAHLEQUAH — Lovenia Alice (Warner) York passed from this life on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012, at the age of 94.
Committal prayers and interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Bartlesville, on Friday, Jan. 20, at 1 p.m., under the direction of the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory, with the Rev. Buz Wierick officiating. A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Tahlequah, on Saturday, Jan. 21, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. James Graham officiating.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at Tahlequah First United Methodist Church, 300 W. Delaware, Tahlequah, Okla. 74464.
Lovenia Alice (Warner) York was born in Lamar, Colo., on Oct. 18, 1917, to Irving Boyd Warner and Zeffie Mae (Holladay) Warner. She moved with her parents to Cherryvale, Kan., at age 3, and remained there through high school. Following high school, she attended Dodge City Community College, graduating with a teaching certificate.
While in college, she was a member of the Delta Psi Omega National Society, the drama club and the history club.
She and John Wesley York were married on June 5, 1938, in Cherryvale, Kan., by his father, the Rev. O.W. York, who was the pastor of the Methodist Church in Turley. Following WWII, Mr. and Mrs. York moved to Bartlesville, where they raised their family.
For more than 60 years, York was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Bartlesville, where she served as supervisor of the nursery department for 17 years and a member of many committees.
In April 2000, she moved to Tahlequah, where she was a resident of Go Ye Village Retirement Community and a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include daughters, Carol Pease of McAllen, Texas, and Linda and Gary Cheatham of Tahlequah; grandchildren, Roger Michael Donaldson, Larry Donaldson and Kelsey Cheatham; great-grandchildren, Jamie Leigh Donaldson and Caitlen Anne Donaldson; and several great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two step granddaughters, Allyson B. Pease and Erin Cheatham Burket; sister, Gladys L. Gregory of Owasso; and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, John Wesley York; daughter, Dr. Ruth Ann York; son-in-law, Edwin B. “Nick” Pease; brother, Boyd E. Warner; and sister, Muriel L. Nogel.
