George Henry Thurman, 89, of Bartlesville, passed away Tuesday, July 25,
2017 at Forrest Manor nursing home.
George was born July 1, 1928 to parents Virgil and Dorothy (Campbell)
Thurman in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. He received his education in Pawhuska,
Bartlesville and Borger, Texas. George entered the U.S. Army in 1950
where he served his country and received a Bronze Star. He was honorably
discharged in 1953. George then married Alayne Lavonne Barnes Estes on
November 21, 1966 in Bartlesville where the couple also made their home.
George was a member of the American Legion James H Teel post #131. His
hobbies included going fishing, which he loved to do and watching
football.
George is survived by daughters Sylvia Lancaster and husband Chris of
Bartlesville and Elizabeth Mattix and husband Dan of Ogelsby, Oklahoma;
son Paul Estes and wife Darla of Norman, Oklahoma; two sisters Ruth Ann
Thurman of Bartlesville and Rita Barnes and husband Larry of
Bartlesville and one sister in law Joyce Thurman, also of Bartlesville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Alayne Thurman in 2014 and
brother Virgil “Snow” Thurman also in 2014.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 27, 2017 from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm
at Stumpff Funeral Home. Graveside services will be Friday, July 28,
2017 at 11:30 am at Memorial Park Cemetery.
