Thomas was born December 9, 1931 at Avant, OK
to Oliver and Hattie Lucille (Baker) Sherrick. He spent his early years
in Avant until the family moved to Oklahoma City where he finished his
education, graduating from Capitol Hill High School. Following his
graduation, Thomas enlisted in the United States Navy starting his
career that spanned 21 years of active service and 10 years in the
Reserves. He was united in marriage to Helen Elizabeth Lowry in
Bartlesville in 1951. During this time the family lived in a variety of
places in the world. Thomas was an air traffic controller for the Navy
and retired as a Chief Petty Officer. They came to Bartlesville in 1969
where Thomas went to work as an inspector for TRW Reda Pump, a job he
held for 20 + years. Thomas and Helen were dedicated to their church and
served in various capacities.
Thomas is survived by his wife Helen; three sons – David Eugene Sherrick
of Lexington, OK, Steven Duane Sherrick of Bartlesville and Timothy
Wayne Sherrick and wife Jolett also of Bartlesville. Also surviving is a
brother Ernest Edwin Sherrick of Texas and four grandchildren Stephanie
Renee Sherrick of Tulsa, Samantha Marie Anderson of Pittsburg, KS,
Timothy Andrew Sherrick of Bartlesville, Olivia Grace Sherrick of
Bartlesville and a grandchild to be announced.
Thomas was preceded in
death by his parents and five brothers and sisters.
The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m.
and visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, April 11.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 12, at Spirit
Church – West Campus with Pastor Dr. Darryl Wootton officiating.
Burial will follow at the Memorial Park Cemetery, Bartlesville with Honors accorded by the United States Navy. Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home – Walker Brown Chapel.
