(permission granted)
He grew up in the small farm community of Vermont, IL, graduated from high school in 1948, and entered the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Carl was known for his dance moves and as a young man was nicknamed "Fred Astaire." After thirty-two years of life in darkness, he was wonderfully saved and made a new creation. Indeed, all things passed away and everything in his life was made new! He married Jacquelane Rae Sexton in May 1956. He was a loving and caring father to his four children – Carla Jeanne Guilfoyle (Terry and granddaughter Cara) of Bartlesville, OK; Jeffrey Alan Sexton (Michele and granddaughter Nicole/grandson Trenton) of Franklin, TN; Carolyn Rae Horjus (Pete and granddaughter Rachel); and Marilyn Kay Johnson (Kenric and grandsons Jeremy, Bryant, Andrew/granddaughter Sherri).
Jackie passed away December 18,
2001, and shortly thereafter
Carl made his new home in
Nashville, TN.
It was at Nashville First that
Carl met Marita Smith, and they
were married March 14, 2003. He
and Marita ministered together
in Worship Ministries, the
Emmaus Fellowship, as part of
the Ambassadors Sunday School
class and most recently as an
integral part of the Koininia
Sunday School class.
Carl's professional career was
as a sewing machine
salesman/repairman and retired
as a sole proprietor of the
Bartlesville Sewing Center in
Bartlesville, OK. He loved
fishing (and has passed those
genetics along to his son and
grandsons), working puzzles,
playing pool at the
Hendersonville Senior Center,
playing dominoes and the card
game "Hand and Foot;" and, once
cleared by the General Assembly
and the Board of General
Superintendents of the Global
Church of the Nazarene, graced
the dance floor again in his
later years. Carl was a
self-taught musician and loved
playing the piano.
As he came to the end of his
journey in this realm, it was
plainly evident that he was
ready to be with the Lord. In
his final few days he expressed
a certain level of frustration
that he was lingering on earth.
His family had the wonderful
privilege of seeing how a saint
lives and how a saint dies. They
are praising God today and
celebrating with you the life in
Christ that Carl has now fully
realized.
Will be having a committal at
