STUMPFF FUNERAL HOME
BARTLESVILLE, WASHINGTON CO, OK
(permission granted)

Ed Savage, 79, of Bartlesville went to be with his Lord at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, May 1, while surrounded by his beloved wife, children, and sister.

Services will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, May 4, at Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor William J. Shupe officiating.

Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Ed was born August 3, 1938, at his family farm in Fallis, OK. He attended high school in Fairfax, OK, and graduated from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M in Miami, OK, with a Bachelor Degree in Education. Ed married his sweetheart Carolyn in 1960 when he was a senior in college and they made their home in Bartlesville after graduation. He served the Lord as an Elder, loved family and friends unconditionally, and positively impacted lives as a teacher.

Ed lived his life on three principles in priority order: God, Family, and Work. Keep life in that order and never mix them up.

Principle 1 – God: Ed served many roles at Redeemer Lutheran Church but his proudest and most honored role was that of an Elder. He organized countless fellowship dinners and for the last several years called each member on their birthday to sing “Happy Birthday”. He’d always ask in his bubbly, humorous way, “Have you been a good girl/boy?” and end the call with “Remember, God loves you.”

Principle 2 – Family: Ed’s most treasured blessing was his family. He and Carolyn provided a strong spiritual foundation in a Christ-centered home to create solid family bonds. Many life lessons were taught through the mountains and valleys of life experiences and they always encompassed Faith, Hope, and Love. His favorite times were family meals, fishing at the ponds, and taking each child out on a date to make them feel special.

Principle 3 – Work: Ed had many jobs throughout his life. In his younger years he plowed fields, worked in grocery stores and gas stations, and dug ditches in the oil fields. After college, his career focused on his passion: teaching. He taught 7th grade social studies at Madison Middle School for 31 years. One could often hear, “Give that girl/boy an E!” for doing something “extra” good. He organized field trips to Woolaroc and the roller rink, and led a canned food drive during Thanksgiving for many years. Most of all, he thrived at being a mentor to his students and understood each student was unique.

In addition to teaching, Ed had two favorite side jobs: Painting and Santa. He and long-time friend Bob Lewis created and ran a painting business for over 20 years. Their wives and children were part of the work crew and it taught them how to work hard, have fun, and create memories. The ultimate for Ed was playing Santa. His love for life illuminated the faces of children and parents as he flew down into Eastland Center in a helicopter and played Santa Claus every year.

Ed is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Margaret Savage; two sons, Kenneth Joe Savage and wife Karen of Rudy AR, Jefferson Dietrich Savage of Bristow, OK; one daughter, Susan Renee Riden and husband James of Edmond, OK; two sisters, Linda Marie Lady and husband Don of Ponca City, OK, Dena Maye Miller and husband Joe of Davenport, OK; six adored grandchildren he called his Monkeys, Monkey #1 Kendra Shea Savage and fiancé Pedro Lopez, Monkey #2 Ashley Diane Welchel and husband Taylor, Monkey #3 Randall Dietrich Savage and fiancé Heather Kelley, Monkey #4 Michael Dewain Wilkinson, Monkey #5 Rebecca Ann Romine and husband Tyler, Monkey #6 Kurt “Wes” Savage; two great-grandchildren, Brantley Welchel and Brooklynn Savage; four sisters-in-law, Pat Durheim and husband Bud, Henrietta Swarthout, Dorothy Gilbreath and husband Jack, and Barbara Weintz and husband Bill; close friends of 54 years Bob & Nancy Lewis, long-term friend Barbara Williams, several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion Jefferson “Doc” Savage and Alberta Marie Miller Savage, one sister, Diana Kaye Savage, two daughters, Donna Jean Savage and Lisa Michelle Weigl, and one son-in-law, Rodney Alan Weigl.
