Denise Louise Summerlin, loving wife, devoted mother and lifelong Bartlesville community servant, was 70 when she died Thursday in Tulsa.
Denise was born the daughter of Ralph Monroe and Jean Elizabeth (Mitchell) Greenwood on August 6, 1955, in Bartlesville. Her fondest memories growing up was with her parents and sister Jaclyn, spending summers at Hulah and Sunset lakes.
As a young girl, Denise met an even younger boy during her high school years. She graduated from College High in 1974 but Ronnie had a few more to go. The young couple were united in marriage on August 14, 1976, and made their home in Bartlesville. Denise worked at Keepsake Candles for several years before Jennifer joined their family. Denise decided she would be a stay-at-home mom and enjoy time with her precious baby. But it wasn't just the three of them for long - over the years many precious, spoiled rotten poodles have blessed their lives with unconditional love. As a family they enjoyed camping, fishing and taking the motor home to Grand Lake, of course the fur babies were along for the journey.
Denise's passions in life centered around her family and her favorite holidays. Together, Ronnie and Denise entered many Bassin Mates tournaments and enjoyed square dancing. The family relished travelling and spent countless hours together doing fun things. Denise loved arts and crafts, recently travelling to one of her favorite annual arts and crafts shows at War Eagle, Arkansas. She loved to decorate for the holidays, with Halloween and Christmas being her favorites. She collected anything with the Grinch and Mickey Mouse.
Denise also gave back throughout her life and she was generous with her time. She was active in Eastern Star, a Rainbow Mom, the Wasano Shrine Club and the public schools. She loved the Lord and her Sunday School class at First Baptist. She had a joyful spirit and could bring a smile to anyone's face whenever she was near. Most of all everybody knew that frowns were not allowed when you were with her. Denise, you were dearly loved and we're going to miss you, Love, Ronnie, Jennifer and Abby.
Denise is survived by her loving husband of 49 years Ronnie; precious daughter Jennifer; sister Jaclyn (Robert) Stafford; in-laws, Dale (Stefani) Summerlin, Rhonda (Travis) Pierce, Robin Summerlin and Jason (Kari- Anne) Starks; and numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of other family and friends and her loving poodle Abby. She is preceded in death by her parents.
Denise's family will receive friends on Thursday, from 6-8 p.m., at the Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory - Walker Brown Chapel, 918-333-7665, 4201 Nowata Rd, Bartlesville. Visitation will also be held on Thursday from 12-8.
Services will be held on Friday, at 10 a.m., at the Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory - Walker Brown Chapel. Interment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to Bartlesville chapter 142 Order of Eastern Star or Wasono Shrine Club, at 610 NE Washington BLVD, Bartlesville, OK 74006.
