(permission granted)

Published in Examiner-Enterprise from Apr. 23 to Apr. 25, 2021.

George N. Rhodes was born near Sperry, OK, on May 3, 1922, and spent his early years near Barnsdall, OK, where his father worked for the Barnsdall Oil Company. Rhodes completed high school in Sperry and immediately after graduation enlisted in the US Army, inflating his age by a year to reach eligibility. He served in WWII from 1939 to 1945, with the 45th Division. He and Bonnie Gates were married in 1945 and made their home in Tulsa, OK. He graduated from the University of Tulsa in August 1950 with a degree in business, and the next month left with the 45th Division to serve in Korea. His tour of duty ended in April 1952, and he was honorably discharged with the rank of captain later that year. Rhodes joined the Marketing Department of Phillips Petroleum Company in May 1952, in the Tulsa office. He also worked for Phillips in Atlanta, GA; Montgomery, AL; Columbus, OH; Houston, TX; and Bartlesville, OK. He retired in March 1985.

He is survived by two daughters, Judy Rhodes of Cincinnati, OH, and Jane Seago of Tulsa. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie, and his brother, Dallas.

Those who wish to remember him may contribute to the 45th Infantry Division Association, 2145 NE 36th Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73111, or to any charity serving the needs of veterans.

The graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, in Memorial Park Cemetery in Bartlesville, under the direction of Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home.
