STUMPFF FUNERAL HOME
BARTLESVILLE, WASHINGTON CO, OK
(permission granted)
He was born September 21, 1945 in Checotah, Oklahoma to James
E. and Louise (Curnutt) Phillips. Jim was a 1963 graduate and
Salutatorian of Porum High School.
Jim attended Connors Junior College on a baseball scholarship and
finished his college degree with a double major in business and finance
from Oklahoma State University in 1967. While at Oklahoma State
University, Jim married his high school and life-long sweetheart,
Ronetta Joyce Dearman, on July 29, 1966. They were married 51 years.
After graduation, he was hired by Phillips 66 to the Credit Card
Division in Kansas City, MO. While in Kansas City he and Joyce were
blessed with the birth of their two daughters. In 1970, Jim was
transferred to Bartlesville, Oklahoma with Credit Card Division, where
he remained until 1973. During this time, he wrote the original Credit
Card Division bad debts program as a computer programmer. In 1973, he
was relocated to Greenville, South Carolina with Phillips Fibers. In
1975, Jim was relocated back to Bartlesville, OK. He left Phillips 66 in
1984 after 17 years and began his Financial Planning firm, First
Investment Corporation, where his daughter and son-in-law carry his
legacy forward.
Jim had a wonderful life. He blessed many lives with his advice and bear
hugs. He loved his friends, clients and church family. Jim lived his
life serving his Lord. He lived a life of virtue and integrity and was a
positive example to his family and countless others. Jim said he and
Joyce had an incredibly blessed and fun-filled life. They enjoyed
travels all over the world that have provided life long memories for
family and friends.
Among the things he enjoyed were 50’s and 60’s rock and country music,
reading Western novels, Americana, patriotism, entrepreneurship – and,
above all, his family and his savior Jesus. He did not fight his fate
but looked forward to his new home saying often, ‘it’s all part of the
plan’. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ.
Jim is survived by his wife and the love of his life, Joyce, his two
daughters, Janet (Brett) Bilyeu of Tulsa and Cheryl (Kenny) Green of
Bartlesville. His four grandchildren: Bryne, Kayla and Macey Bilyeu of
Tulsa and Rylan Green of Bartlesville. His mother Louise Phillips of
Bartlesville, his sister Karen Sue (Jim) Coleman of North Richland
Hills, Texas, his aunt Margaret Johnson of Owasso, his uncle Jerry Paul
Jones of Inola and many neices, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father James E. Phillips.
