(permission granted)

Ronald Gene Patterson, 80, of Dewey passed away Wednesday at home in Dewey with his family by his side.

Ronald was born the second of four children of Raymond and Cecil Mae (Holiday) Patterson in Broken Arrow, OK, on November 9, 1934. The family moved to Chelsea where Ronald started school but soon moved to Nowata. While in high school he worked at his father’s store, Raymond’s Produce & Superior Feeds. Before graduating he made up his mind and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp and served at the tail end of the Korean War during cleanup operations. While stateside on leave, he was united in marriage with his sweetheart Sue Keen on April 1, 1955. She went to live with him at Camp Pendleton, CA. After his honorable discharge the family moved back to Nowata, and then Dewey in 1959. Ronald worked delivering propane and as a machinist at Bluestem for a few years before starting his 30-year career with Reda Pump. He worked as a machinist in the pattern shop before retiring in 1996.

Ronald had many passions in life including being a forty-plus year member of the Spruce Ave. Missionary Baptist Church in Bartlesville. He ran cattle on leased land for many years before buying his own 10 acre tract to raise beef for his family and church friends. Ronald and Sue loved to camp and fish. He was also an artist who painted and enjoyed photography, developing his own pictures in his lab. In Ronald’s own words he recalled he lived a good and happy life with Sue and his loving children.

Ronald is survived by his wife Sue of Dewey; one daughter Paula Liston and Joel of Nowata; one daughter-in-law Sylvia Patterson Vega of Costa Rica; one sister Joyce Jones of Bartlesville; three grandchildren, Tasha and husband Dietrich Posch of Bartlesville, Cole Liston of Afton, and Miguel Patterson Vega; two great grandchildren Mela Grace Posch, and Ella Joyce Posch; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, one son Michael Gene Patterson in 2006, one brother Melton Patterson and one sister Sue Linn.

Ronald’s family will receive friends at the Davis Family Funeral Home, 918-534-3030, 113 S. Osage (Hwy. 75), Dewey, on Sunday, Oct. 25, from 3-5 p.m. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 26, 2015, at Memorial Park Cemetery, with Pastor Randy Bettis officiating. Military honors will be provided by the James H. Teel American Legion Post 105 Honor Guard.
