He was
born to parents Earnest Newman and Lyndall Plumlee Newman on April 17, 1935, in
St. Louis, Missouri. Larry grew up in Cassville, Missouri, and Miami, Oklahoma.
During his high school years, he earned himself the nickname “Guts” Newman.
Following high school, Larry attended barber school in Tulsa and would often
hitchhike to attend his classes.
After Barber school, Larry opened his own barbershop in Bartlesville called
“Larry’s Barber Shop” but later changed the name in the ’80s to “Hair 7”. He
worked as a barber and was self-employed for 67 years in Bartlesville.
Larry married Betty Jo Garber Newman, on July 20, 1954, and they were married
for 67 years. Betty and Larry would later have a son: Tony D., and two
daughters: Tammy J., and Trina L. Later in life they had 6 grandchildren.
Larry enjoyed golf, cars, coins, antiques, and most of all his family.
Larry is preceded in death by his father Earnest Newman, his mother Lyndall Wohlgemuth, his stepfather Benjamin Wohlgemuth, his aunt Francis Rowley, his uncle A.B. Rowley, his grandmother Faye Newman, and his grandfather Roy Newman.
Larry is survived by his wife of 67 years Betty Jo Newman, his brother James E. Newman and sister-in-law Mary Ann Newman, his son: Tony D. Newman, his daughters: Trina L. Evans, and Tammy J. Newman, his cousin James French, his grandchildren: Jeana Newman, Brandi Newman, Kollin Evans, Kelsey Evans, Cascia Stockton, and Cameron Corolewski, his great-grandchildren: Kaitlyn Hines, Annelise Creel, Jason Creel Jr., Trinity Wilson, Jaxton Trusler, Aniston Trusler, Holland Evans, Hayes Evans, and Caleb Stockton, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Larry will be held on Thursday, May 27, at 2 pm at the Stumpff Funeral Home Chapel in Bartlesville.
