DAVIS FAMILY FUNERAL HOME
DEWEY, WASHINGTON CO, OK
(permission granted)

Joan Ruth (Allen) Munkirs, 78, lifetime resident of the Bartlesville-Dewey area, passed away Friday, Nov. 10, 2017.

Joan was born April 19, 1939, in Dewey, OK, to Percy & Marie (Brooks) Allen. She married Phillip Munkirs on March 15, 1957. Joan was a member of Eastern Heights Baptist Church. She worked at Phillips Petroleum in the credit card division for many years before retiring.

She loved to dance, go to the lake house and spend time with her grandchildren. When the grandkids were still in school, she would pick them up at the end of the day because she wanted them to have a “snack” which was normally a meal at Subway or Sonic. She also loved to bake cookies with her granddaughter. She always had the makings for chocolate chip cookies at the house and several boxes of cereal for the boys to enjoy. The lake was her tranquil spot. She would spend hours on the front porch swing, watching the lake and humming.

She also enjoyed spending time with her many friends, whether it was out camping or having a party at the house. Joan and Phil were part of a “gang” for many years who really became part of their family. They went on trips together, went to the Moose to dance on Saturday nights, and always had New Year’s Eve parties where the women dressed up in their finest gowns. She loved to get all dressed up for these get-togethers. Joan was a social butterfly who never met a stranger. She made everyone feel welcome and comfortable no matter where she was. There was always a smile on her face, love in her heart and laughter in her voice.

Joan is survived by her husband Phillip Munkirs; and her daughters, Barbara Whalin of Omaha, NE, Donna Owens of Bartlesville, and Debbie Watson of Dewey. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Ben Watson & Natalie, Kaycee (Watson) & Cass Head, and McQuaid Watson & Angela; her five great grandchildren: Ellie, Devon, Cade, Grayson and Josiah; brother Harold Allen; sister Dorothy & Carl Arnold along with several nieces and nephews, and a multitude of family and friends who loved her.

Visitation will be held Tues., Nov. 14, 10-8 p.m. Joan’s family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. at the Davis Family Funeral Home, 918-534-3030, 113 S. Osage (Hwy. 75), Dewey.

Celebration of life services will be held 10 a.m. Wed., Nov. 15, at Eastern Heights Baptist Church, with Lonnie Hoelscher officiating.

Interment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery.

Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home.

Online condolences and remembrances may be shared with Joan’s family at www.DavisFamilyFuneralHome.com.
